Museums Victoria is seeking a Building Services Engineer to take responsibility for the management of building services including fire detection and protection, heating, ventilation & air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R), electrical distribution, energy management, lighting systems, vertical transport, and building management systems at all Museums Victoria sites. The position is primarily accountable for delivering complex projects and programs of activity which deliver a safe, fit for purpose, effective and sustainable environment for the conduct of Museum operations and visitor enjoyment across Museums Victoria.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Museum Victoria cares for the State scientific and cultural collections, providing visitor access, activities and events at five distinct venues:  Melbourne Museum, Immigration Museum, Scienceworks, IMAX Cinema and world heritage listed Royal Exhibition Building.

The position is primarily accountable for delivering complex projects and programs of activity which deliver a safe, fit for purpose, effective and sustainable environment for the conduct of Museum operations and visitor enjoyment across Museums Victoria.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. An in-depth understanding of building services to create a strategic approach to the development and assessment of technical proposals, specifications, supervision and the implementation of building services projects and programs across Museums Victoria.
  2. Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary professional teams, which may include engineers and project managers, in delivering projects which meet the organisation’s objectives.
  3. Experience in the specification and documentation of contracts for building projects and services.
  4. A demonstrated understanding of the relationship between environmental sustainability and building services, and current knowledge and awareness of sustainability developments and trends.  Moved down.
  5. A demonstrated ability to devise innovative problem-solving solutions for building projects and designs. Moved up
  6. Demonstrated understanding of the Building Regulations (Vic) 2006, Building Code of Australia, OHS Act (Vic) 2004, and the application of risk management principles in public venues.
  7. A working knowledge of software packages including Building Management Systems (BMS) and Microsoft Office – particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and Project.
  8. Highly developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external clients and stakeholders, the ability to understand, assess and respond to customer needs in a positive, friendly and efficient manner, and an understanding of how to successfully manage customer expectations.
  9. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and flexibly in a team environment.
  10. The successful applicant is required to undergo a National Police Records Check and be assessed as suitable (new employees are required to meet this cost)
