S/Objects in Motion in Cultural Heritage: Circulation, Borders, and Transformations.

The doctoral students in Cultural Heritage and historical-artistic, audiovisual and multimedia production of the University of Turin are pleased to invite you to the first doctoral conference titled S/Objects in motion in cultural heritage: circulation, borders and transformation.
We welcome submissions from—but not limited to—these following research fields:
1. History, Art History, and Linguistic and Cultural Mediation:
– Handling of artworks, artifacts, documents, and collections;
– Preservation of cultural heritage in past and future conflict scenarios;
– History of exhibitions, international events, and festivals: beyond museum and national borders, new practices, and shifts in content and curatorial paradigms;
– Heritage’s reexamination and enhancement throughout history;
– Migration: permeability between places, methods, productions, and perspectives of artists, critics, historians, and writers;
– Communication, cultural and multilingual mediation practices for the narration and engagement with heritage.
2. Performing arts, audiovisual media, and game studies:
– Aesthetic geographies of audiovisual, performative representations and self-narratives of human mobility: decolonial or marginalized artistic practices, independent, community-based, or alternative forms;
– Audiovisual archives and memories in transit: preservation, access, reactivation, and reappropriation of cultural heritage, as well as the critical use of archives in contemporary artistic practices;
– Intermediality and format migration: alternative circuits to mainstream channels, independent platforms, local community networks, site-specific screenings and performances, redefinition of audiences and modes of access;
– New mediation practices: festivals as spaces for reappropriation, legitimization, and visibility of artworks at the intersection of the market, activism, and curatorial research.
The deadline for submission of proposals is September 30, 2026, and the results will be communicated by October 31, 2026.
