Chief Executive Officer: Mary Darwell

Mary joined Museums of History NSW as Chief Executive Officer in June 2023.

Mary brings over 30 years’ experience to her current role and previously held positions as Chief Executive Officer to the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust and Arts NSW and has most recently been heading State Records NSW as Executive Director to support transparent and accountable government.

Mary has held a number of non-executive director positions on cultural organisation Boards, including with Sydney Festival and Carriageworks.

Museums of History NSW brings together the historic houses, museums and collections previously in the care of Sydney Living Museums with the vast archives and records in the NSW State Archives Collection.

MHNSW is committed to preserving and presenting NSW’s unique history through stewardship and activation its places and collections which comprise some of the most significant historical material in the country, including the UNESCO World Heritage listed Hyde Park Barracks. With this as our foundation, MHNSW aims to bring history to life through diverse voices and viewpoints, supporting audiences of all backgrounds to gain fresh perspectives and understandings of their past, present and future.

Museums of History NSW is a state cultural institution, established under the Museums of History NSW Act 2022. It is an agency of the NSW Department of Enterprise, Investment and Trade (DEIT).
