Canterbury Museum is celebrating following its win of the 2014 Champion Canterbury Business Award for Tourism/Hospitality (medium to large enterprises) at the Gala Dinner held Wednesday night.

Museum Director Anthony Wright says the award is another feather in the cap for the Museum as it also achieved Qualmark Enviro Gold, Gold accreditation with Investors in People, and was named a finalist in this year’s national Museums Aotearoa Awards for its Quake City attraction and for its record breaking visitor numbers to the RISE Street Art Exhibition.

This sentiment was supported by Michael McEvedy, Museum Board Chair, who congratulated staff on such a great accomplishment:

“While there were, and continue to be, many challenges to face post-earthquakes, the team at Canterbury Museum worked tirelessly to ensure this much loved cultural attraction was able to re-open fully to the public. With a lack of cultural activities open within the city, Museum staff recognised the need for there to be an “anchor” for local visitors as well as tourists and this Award certainly recognises that achievement.

Canterbury Museum is truly elated by this win. Despite all our challenges, we continue to deliver a quality Museum experience for our visitors, and this commitment is acknowledged through all the awards we have won over the last 12 months – and this win is the icing on the cake”.
