The Opportunity
Sovereign Hill is internationally recognised as Australia’s foremost outdoor museum. The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold Museum, Blood on the Southern Cross and the historic pastoral property, Narmbool.
Sovereign Hill employs 380 people and a volunteer cohort of 250+ with a turnover of approximately $32million per annum. The previous Chief Executive has recently retired after 15 years at the helm of the organisation. The Board is now seeking to recruit a new Chief Executive who will lead the next stage of Sovereign Hills growth and development. An interim appointment is in place while this search is conducted.
The Position
The successful candidate will provide executive leadership for the management and day to day operations of Sovereign Hill in accordance with the direction, policies and Budget established by the Board with the primary objective to continuously advance Sovereign Hill’s international standing as an accredited museum and as a major Australian cultural tourism attraction as well as its’ position as a highly-valued educational institution to ensure its ongoing independent and profitable commercial success.

- A proven track record or has had success in leading a Not for Profit or Community-based organisation
- Proven ability to communicate and negotiate with a wide range of organisations and individuals to enhance and expand community and financial support
- Sound financial skills and business acumen at relevant senior level
- Senior experience or a strong working knowledge in museum operations and the development and implementation of exhibition programs, public programs and interpretation programs using digital media would be an advantage
- Knowledge of the tourism industry and/or education sector is desirable
- Tertiary and Post-graduate qualifications, preferably in a management discipline, and the Company Directors Course or equivalent.
