Duties
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) leads the Operations Division and plays a key role as part of the Museum’s Executive Management Team. The COO will have a thorough understanding of the national and international context within which the Museum operates and relevant Government policies. The COO will have strong financial and human resource management, relationship building, conceptual and analytical skills.

The Chief Operating Officer will:

  1. Develop and implement policies, products and services that meet the Museum’s business objectives;
  2. Plan and direct the activities of the Division;
  3. Advise the Director and Council of the National Museum of Australia on operational issues;
  4. Represent the Museum at high level negotiations and discussions with Government Departments and Authorities, cultural institutions, professional groups and the private sector on matters relating to the development and implementation of Museum plans, programs, products and services;
  5. Contribute to the strategic planning process of the Museum;
  6. Lead the Museum’s business continuity and disaster recovery processes in times of crisis or emergency;
  7. Ensure the timely completion and delivery of all divisional projects and work plans on budget and to a high standard; and
  8. Ensure that employees are provided with sufficient supervision, instruction and equipment to enable them to perform their duties safely.
