Mike Yardley, Visitor levy the Canterbury Museum board’s best shot at covering $86m shortfall, 10 June 2025
OPINION: It’s been two months since the Canterbury Museum Trust Board (CMTB) revealed its quest for a further $50 million in public funding to plug its fiscal hole, following the cost blow-out to the museum’s massive redevelopment.
The project price tag ballooned in November by $42m, to $247m, with the overall shortfall nearly doubling to $86.6m. That followed $11m in value-engineered cost savings being stripped from the project.
