Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.

Auckland Museum has a 1-year 0.5 FTE fixed term opportunity for a highly motivated Collection Manager to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. This position is part of the wider Collections and Research team and will assist with the planning and prioritization of gallery object decant and relocations, consulting closely with the Gallery Object Rotations team and Project Curator and Associate Curators. You will research and identify suitable replacement collection objects for rotation in the permanent galleries, manage and administer collection access for staff involved in the project, ensure objects are packed and handled with care and to museum standards, and organise and track all object movements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A relevant degree
  • Experience in collection management, with some curatorial experience an advantage
  • A high level of knowledge and experience working with Pacific/Maori and/or Applied Arts collections
  • Database and collection cataloguing experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills and a strong work ethic
  • Relevant museum experience including object handling and packing.
  • Knowledge of tikanga Maori
  • A current full driver’s licence
  • An ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and/or weekends
