Job Description
This is a one-year fixed term and full-time position, providing cover for parental leave backfill reasons. The Collection Manager Pacific is part of the wider Collection and Research directorate and is one of the team responsible for the expert physical care, processing and documentation of the Museum’s renowned Pacific collection. This position will provide access to collections through hosting visitors, responding to enquiries and contributing to exhibitions, public programmes and collections online.
Desired Skills and Experience
To be successful in this role, you will offer:
- A degree relevant to the Museum’s Human History collections, particularly pertaining to Pacific cultures
- A high level of knowledge and experience working with Pacific collections and facilitating access and engagement with Pacific communities
- Demonstrated experience in cultural protocols and practices, particularly relating to Pacific communities
- Proficiency in a Pacific language is highly desirable
- Proven effective interpersonal and time management skills, along with a strong work ethic
- Experience in collection management databases, cataloguing processes, packing and handling of objects in a museum environment
- A current and full driver’s license
- An ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and/or weekends as required
- An understanding of the principles of equal opportunities, diversity management and the Treaty of Waitangi as they relate to the Museum environment
