Auckland Museum currently has a fixed term opportunity (till 9 August 2019) for a highly motivated Collection Manager Taonga Maori to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal.

The position is part of the wider Collection and Research team and is responsible, as one of a team, for the expert processing and documentation of recently acquired taonga Maori collections and for providing access to collections, through visitors, responding to enquiries and contributing to loans, exhibitions and public programmes.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant museum experience including object handling, cataloguing and packing, especially handling practices as they relate to taonga Maori
  • Knowledge of Tikanga Maori, especially relating to collections
  • A relevant degree
  • Excellent interpersonal and time management skills and a strong work ethic
  • Sound understanding of matauranga Maori
  • Experience in packing and handling objects, as well as the physical ability to lift objects of medium to heavy weight
  • A current and full driver’s licence

This role, along with the contribution of the broader Collections and Research team, is at the heart of many of the Museum’s aspirations. The collections, and knowledge about them, are often the essential basis for exhibitions, programmes and events for family, formal education and tourist audiences.

The role is as varied as the working environment and will require enthusiasm, hard work and flexibility.
