ABOUT THE POSITION:
The primary responsibility of the Collection Manager, Vertebrate Palaeontology is to implement policies, systems and procedures to manage and provide access to the Vertebrate Palaeontology Collection and Palaeobotany Collection.
Notable skills and experiences:
The successful applicant will have:
- Expert knowledge of the taxonomy of vertebrates, knowledge of geology.
- Knowledge and experience in the collection, preparation and preservation/conservation of vertebrate fossils under field and laboratory conditions.
- Knowledge of, and experience in, the use of a range of computer applications for collection management purposes, especially EMu and MVWISE.
- Expert knowledge and experience in managing a Museum Collection, and knowledge of national and international principles, practises, standards and ethics around management of such a collection.
- Experience in developing and implementing collection management policy and procedures.
- Experience in devising and managing projects. Experience training other collection management and volunteer staff.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide written and verbal advice to key stakeholders within and beyond the Museum.
