Duties

  • Assist the Senior Curator of Vertebrate Zoology and Palaeontology with the care, development and maintenance of the Vertebrate Zoology and Palaeontology collections, including the supervision of technical staff and volunteers.
  • Register specimens in, and retrieve information from, the TMAG databases, including the TMAG tissue archives.
  • Process loans of specimens, including those that require destructive sampling.
  • Prepare study skins, skeletal material, tissue samples and wet specimens for inclusion in the TMAG research collection, and assist with fieldwork when required.
  • Assist the Senior Curator of Vertebrate Zoology and Palaeontology with access to the collection for exhibitions and other public programs.
  • As part of a team, develop efficient collection and information management procedures within TMAG and priorities for the development and enhancement of Zoology’s information systems.
  • Allocate tasks and set priorities for the ongoing development of the TMAG component of the Atlas of Living Australia and other national projects.
  • Assist with the identification of vertebrate specimens.
  • Manage public enquiries associated with the identification of vertebrate specimens and use of the collection.
  • Undertake general technical and administrative duties and participate in identified projects as required.

Essential Requirements

Evidence of the following must be provided prior to appointment to this role:

  • Bachelor degree in an appropriate course of study.

Desirable Requirements

  • A current motor vehicle licence.
  • A Masters in Museum Studies.
