Auckland Museum is a much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.
Auckland Museum has a full-time and permanent opportunity for a highly motivated Collection Manager to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. This position is part of the wider Collections and Research team and is responsible for the collection management aspects of the planning, removal and replacement of collection objects currently on display, consulting closely with the Gallery Improvements team and Curators. You will work with Curators to identify suitable replacement collection objects for minor refreshes of content in the permanent galleries, manage and administer collection access, ensure objects are packed and handled with care and to museum standards, and organise and track all object movements
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- A relevant degree
- Proven experience in collection management, with some curatorial experience an advantage
- A high level of knowledge and experience working with Humanities collections
- Database and collection cataloguing experience
- Effective interpersonal and time management skills, with a strong work ethic
- Relevant museum experience including object handling and packing
- Knowledge of tikanga Maori
- A current full driver’s licence
- The ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, holidays and/or weekends
