Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its world-class collections and the employees and volunteers who tell the Museum’s stories. We are Auckland’s home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

We are seeking two highly motivated Collection Technicians for a fixed period of six months to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. The primary purpose of the role(s) is to catalogue, re-house, photograph and incorporate the 21stBattalion Association collection of ~ 600 objects into the History Collections.

To be successful in this role, you will offer:

  • Tertiary qualification in Museum Studies or in a field relevant to the Human History collections or relevant demonstrated experience
  • Awareness of and experience working with History collections
  • 1-3 years relevant museum experience is essential
  • Museum object handling skills and inventory experience are essential
  • Collections database experience is essential, preferably in Vernon CMS, together with an awareness of relevant descriptive or cataloguing systems approaches
  • Good overall understanding of collection management disciplines is desirable
  • A current and full driver’s license
  • An ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and/or weekends as required
  • Understand the principles of equal opportunities, diversity management and the Treaty of Waitangi as they relate to the Museum environment
