The Collections Information and Access department is seeking a part-time and fixed-term Collection Technician to be an integral member of a multi-disciplinary project team at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum. Working closely with the Natural Sciences division, you will be responsible for creating and enhancing high-quality object records and rehousing items from our herpetology collections. This role is crucial to the achievement of the project, which will highlight the breadth and depth of our collections and form the basis of future onsite, offsite and online access. This role requires 24 hours per week and the fixed term will run to early November 2021.
To be successful in this fixed-term role, you will offer:
- Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of biological taxonomy and Linnaean classification essential
- 1-3 years museum experience in a museum collection documentation, inventory or cataloguing role
- A Tertiary science qualification, especially in a field relevant to the Natural Science collections
- Proven effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail.
- Self-motivation, effective organisation skills and a proven ability to cope well under pressure
- An interest in New Zealand flora and fauna is also desirable
