Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.

The position of Collection Technician Relocations will contribute to the physical care, stability and accessibility of the collections held by Auckland Museum through preparing and housing the collection objects as required to their appropriate needs and condition. We will consider requests for full-time and part-time roles.

 To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Awareness of and experience working with sensitive cultural material
  • Good overall understanding of collection management disciplines is desirable
  • Experience in packing and handling objects is essential
  • Experience in storage redevelopment is desirable
  • Experience using mechanical equipment to access objects (e.g. forklift, wave lifter etc.)
  • Metal and/or wood working experience (in particular crate and pallet making) desirable
  • The capability to regularly lift heavy objects within safe workplace guidelines
  • Excellent manual dexterity and experience in making object supports
  • Excellent spatial sense and ability to work in tight spaces while handling large objects
  • Effective interpersonal and time management skills are essential
  • Vernon database experience an advantage
  • Ability to confidently deal with new tasks
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to make timely decisions using sound judgment and consultation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Tact, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Tertiary qualification in Conservation of Cultural Material or Museum Studies is desirable
