Auckland Museum is a much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.
An opportunity exists in the Information, Library and Enquiry Services team for a part-time Collection Technician, to support vital functions of the Library service. This role will be physically active as well as intellectually challenging. This role is for a 36-hour working week from Tuesday-Saturday as part of the standard provision of Library services.
The contributions from the Library team are at the heart of many of the Museum’s aspirations as expressed in Future Museum, and these support roles will help ensure our clients receive the services they expect from us—onsite, offsite and online.
This role is suitable for a recent Museum or Library school graduate with 1-3 years working experience and who wishes to progress their career in this sector. Please read the associated position description for further details.
To be successful in this part time role you will offer;
- Experience of collection management processes and databases
- Excellent appreciation of and interest in the Documentary Heritage collections of the Museum
- Sound reference skills and demonstrated ability to work collegially with researchers, team members and other colleagues
- Sound technical skills with experience in scanning heritage material and creating digital images, data entry, data mapping and migration
- Be a self-starter with problem-solving skills, attention to detail, demonstrated accountability and commitment to completion
- A warm and generous personality, along with a flexible attitude.
