Collection Technician, Research Support, Online Cenotaph and He Pou Maumahara

Auckland Museum is a much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.

We are seeking experienced, forward-thinking museum or library / information professionals to join the Online Cenotaph and He Pou Maumahara team. Online Cenotaph, based at Auckland Museum, is the nation’s online war memorial and a biographical database recording the service and sacrifice of all New Zealanders who have served this country in international conflict. This service works alongside the He Pou Maumahara, Memorial Discovery Centre; a space where members of the public can conduct in-depth research into New Zealand’s experience of war or tracing the military service of an ancestor or person of interest. This role provides research, content and enquiry support for both Online Cenotaph and Pou Mahara.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Tertiary qualification in Museum Studies, Library & Information Sciences or History, or suitable experience in a field relevant to the Museum’s activities, is desirable.
  • Require sound research and reference skills, with a demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders, researchers and other members of the public
  • Be a self-starter with problem-solving skills, attention to detail, proven accountability and commitment to completion.
  • Have technical skills and experience in scanning and describing heritage material and creating digital images, data entry, data mapping and migration.
  • Must be able to work weekends.
