Auckland War Memorial Museum: Connecting through sharing stories of people, lands and seas.Auckland Museum is a much-loved culture and heritage organisation at the heart of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes. We are Auckland’s home of commemoration as well as the country’s oldest research institution and a major tourist destination.

We are seeking an experienced, forward-thinking museum or library / information professional to join the Online Cenotaph team. This permanent and full-time role provides research, content and enquiry support for both Online Cenotaph and Pou Maumahara. Online Cenotaph is the nation’s online war memorial and a biographical database recording the service and sacrifice of all New Zealanders who have served this country in international conflict. This service works alongside the Pou Maumahara, Memorial Discovery Centre; a space where members of the public can conduct in-depth research into New Zealand’s experience of war or tracing the military service of an ancestor, tūpuna or person of interest.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Require sound research and reference skills, with a demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders, researchers and other members of the public
  • Be a self-starter with problem-solving skills, attention to detail, proven accountability and commitment to completion
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in the fields of Museum Studies, Library and Information management, Māori and Pacific studies or History, or offer suitable and extensive experience in a field relevant to the Museum’s activities
  • A basic proficiency of Te Reo, tikanga Māori or a Pacific language and Pacific protocols is desirable
  • Have technical skills and experience in scanning and describing heritage material and creating digital images, data entry, data mapping and migration
  • Must be available to work a weekend shift
