Collection Technician, Research Support, Pou Mahara Memorial Enquiry Centre

Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.

We are seeking experienced, forward-thinking library / information or museum professionals to join the newly formed Pou Mahara team in an exciting period of the Museum’s development. Online Cenotaph is Auckland War Memorial Museum’s national biographical database of those New Zealanders who served this country in national and international conflicts – New Zealand’s online war memorial. This service works alongside Pou Mahara, Memorial Enquiry Service, which will open in late 2016. Pou Mahara is a space where members of the public can conduct in-depth research into New Zealand’s experience of war or tracing the military service of an ancestor or person of interest. This new role provides research support and content description for both Online Cenotaph and Pou Mahara.

To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Require sound reference skills and demonstrated ability to work collegially with researchers
  • Be a self-starter with problem-solving skills, attention to detail, proven accountability and commitment to completion
  • Hold a tertiary qualification in Library & Information Sciences or Museum Studies or a field relevant to the Museum’s activities is desirable
  • Have technical skills and experience in scanning and describing heritage material and creating digital images, data entry, data mapping and migration
  • Must be able to work weekends
