Te Papa is New Zealand’s national museum, with a mandate to preserve our country’s cultural heritage, enrich the present, and help New Zealand meet the challenges of the future.
The Digital Collections and Access Team are responsible for ensuring Te Papa’s collections are made as accessible as possible through the active creation, management, delivery and preservation of high quality digital collections.
Te Papa is seeking a Collection Data Technician to contribute best practice creation and management of data relating to collection items as part of Te Papa’s Accelerated Collection Digitisation Programme.
As the Collections Data Technician you will be responsible for:
- Creating and enhancing data that helps make Te Papa’s collections digitally accessible
- Proactively establishing and maintain networks and relationships with key internal stakeholders
- Working with Taonga Maori and associated information, and observing appropriate tikanga of collection items
- Monitor progress towards targets of Te Papa’s Accelerated Collection Digitisation Programme
- Contribute to the Digital Collections and Access team to help achieve team and organisational objectives
Your previous skills and experience will include:
- Database experience preferably in a museum, library or archive environment
- A background describing digitised museum or heritage collections
- Methodical approach to work with an eye for detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ideally experienced in handling museum objects and knowledge of Tikanga Maori.
- A qualification in Museum Studies or another relevant field would be an advantage
