The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is Australia’s leading independent museum
organisation. Our purpose is to inspire an understanding of the significance of the central
Victorian gold rushes in Australia’s national story.
We collect, conserve and interpret the mining, social, cultural and environmental heritage
of the Ballarat region through our world-famous Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold
Museum Ballarat, the Blood on the Southern Cross sound and light show and our pastoral
property, Narmbool.
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Collection Manager to fill a key role in the
newly formed “Collections and Research” department.
As Collection Manager, you will be responsible for the preservation, documentation,
storage and safety of the Association’s collection of some 150,000 items. You will work
with the Senior Curator, Curator and Historian on a range of projects across all venues
of the organisation, and you will drive further improvements in collection documentation
and digitisation. As supervisor of the Exhibit Cleaning team, you will be responsible for
standards of display presentation. You will manage our preventative conservation program
and call in experts for specialised work as required.
The collection is housed in several locations, ranging from our modern, secure, climatecontrolled Collection Centre to open displays in Sovereign Hill’s famous outdoor museum.

range of colleagues and a dedicated band of volunteers.
