Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to outstanding management of its extensive collections and the permanent and volunteer staff who tell the Museum’s stories.
An opportunity exists for one highly motivated Collection Photographer to join the Museum on a fixed-term basis at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal.
The role of Collection Photographer contributes to the delivery of a Collection Imaging project as part of a wider Collections Access and Readiness programme. The outcome of this project will be that all prioritised and identified objects from the collections will be photographed according to the Museum’s standards, linked to the collection database and clearly identified with appropriate rights and permissions statements.
This position is a rare opportunity for someone with a strong photographic background to make a meaningful difference to the understanding of the culture of Auckland, New Zealand, the Pacific and beyond and are eagerly awaited within the Museum.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Advanced photography skills with a particular focus on product photography, still life and high throughput production workflows. Extensive studio experience is desirable
- A degree or higher level diploma in photography or relevant field is desirable
- Demonstrated experience of the Adobe Photographers Suite and Creative Cloud as well as other industry standard imaging applications
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of collection management processes and collection management databases, preferably Vernon CMS
- Demonstrated interpersonal and team work skills, with superior relationship and stakeholder management skills. Participative and democratic working style. Open, friendly and effective communication style with team members, other museum staff and managers
- Object handling, packaging and research skills
- A demonstrated understanding of digital asset management, archival practice, rights management and heritage imaging techniques
- Demonstrated experience as an educator in photographic practice
- Superior verbal and written communication skills
- Understand the principles of equal opportunities, diversity management and the Treaty of Waitangi as they relate to the Museum environment
