The Conservation Manager is responsible for ensuring optimal care of and access to the collection by a wide variety of users across physical sites, off-site and across digital platforms. You will lead and manage all aspects of the Conservation unit including collection management, developing MAAS conservation policies and standards in accordance with international best practice, improving work practices, and strategic policy and procedure development.
The successful applicant must have the following:
Qualifications
Tertiary qualification, specialist training and experience in the conservation, preservation or management needs of cultural materials from multi-disciplinary heritage collections or equivalent plus a minimum of 10 years experience in their subject specialisation
Experience
- Extensive knowledge and proven experience in assessing conservation, preservation or management needs of multi-disciplinary heritage collections and knowledge of national and international frameworks, ethics and issues relevant to heritage collections
- Extensive knowledge of relevant legal, audit and regulatory requirements, insurance and risk management
- High level written and oral communication skills; IT literate, analytical and decision-making skills; project management and strategic planning skills
- Proven experience in managing people within a large multi-disciplinary museum environment
Ability to connect a commercial framework with operational imperatives
