ABOUT THE POSITION
The primary responsibilities of the conservator include:
- The conservation treatment of paper, book and image items from the Museum’s Kodak Heritage Collection
- Conservation documentation
- Provision of advice to internal and external stakeholders.
The position reports to the Senior Conservator, Collection Preservation. The successful applicant will work in collaboration with Conservators, Collection Managers, Curators and others to contribute to the Kodak Heritage Collection project.
Notable skills and experiences
The successful applicant will be expected to:
- Undertake the remedial and preventive conservation of paper, book and image items from the Museum’s Kodak Collection.
- Participate in preventive conservation activities focused on collections access and use.
- Engage in collaborative development of strategies to preserve the Museum’s collections.
- Contribute to implementation of collection care and management programs in the Museum.
- Participate in collection emergency-related programs.
- Supervise non-specialist staff, students and volunteers conducting conservation tasks.
- Provide conservation-related advice to stakeholders within and external to the Museum.
- Contribute to management of facilities, resources, budget and work planning schedules.
- Comply with Museums Victoria’s policies and procedures, and with relevant legislation and regulations.
The successful applicant will have:
- An appropriate tertiary qualification in materials conservation for heritage collections.
- Demonstrated expertise in assessing conservation and preservation needs of collections.
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience and expertise in preventive conservation practice.
- Well-developed verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills and capacity to work effectively and collaborate with team members and key stakeholders on complex projects in a multi-discipline cultural organisation.
