Auckland Museum is seeking to appoint an experienced Content and Interpretation Developer for a full time (40 hours per week) on a 13-month fixed-term contract.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Exhibitions team. The role will report to the Exhibitions Manager – Content & Interpretation and the successful candidate will develop exhibitions for Auckland Museum.

This role is responsible for developing and planning content, interpretation and the visitor experience for exhibitions and galleries onsite, offsite, and online.

The successful candidate will have experience in the development of exhibition and interpretive media content, and a thorough understanding of visitor needs and learning requirements in a museum context. They need to have a thorough understanding of the Museum’s current Treaty of Waitangi obligations in Auckland’s diverse cultural, political and socio-economic landscape. Key responsibilities for this role are:

  • Developing content and interpretation for visitor experiences including approaches that confidently integrate and assert Maori and Pacific content.
  • Creating appropriate interpretive approaches for target audiences.
  • Digital, media, and interactive briefing
  • Supporting the development of integrated exhibition projects through working with internal stakeholders such as, digital, learning and engagement, commercial, marketing, sponsorship, and fundraising.
  • Community collaboration, stakeholder liaison on a range of partnership projects. This should include experience building relationships with Iwi and Maori and Pacific communities and experts that enable diverse and unique Tamaki Makaurau stories and perspectives to be shared with Auckland Museum visitors and audiences.

A tertiary qualification in humanities, sciences, museum studies, design, education, Maori Studies, Pacific Studies or related experience is essential.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two years’ experience in developing a variety of exhibition experiences within a complex environment.
