We are looking for a driven individual to join our Costume Department as a Costume Production Assistant. The Costume Production Assistant is responsible for assisting the Costume Department to support Sovereign Hill’s charter. Working under the direction of the Costume Manager to assist in the production and maintenance of Sovereign Hill’s period costumes and accessories and work to provide Wardrobe services.
The successful applicant must have:
- Previous experience in costume, dress making or in large volume clothing or textiles manufacturing is essential
- Demonstrated ability in basic to advanced sewing techniques and machine operations including but not limited to straight sewing, overlocking, French and flat seams, pintucking, pleating, hemming, pressing, buttonholing and tailoring
- Demonstrated ability to produce costume/garments and accessories to specification, with attention to detail
- Demonstrated capacity to carry out quality control checks
- Demonstrated basic patternmaking skills
- Ability to work unsupervised as well as in a team environment
- Must have initiative and be prepared to accept responsibility for allocated tasks
- Excellent customer service, verbal, and written communications skills
- Ability and willingness to learn new techniques and skills
- Ability and willingness to work occasional weekends
Qualifications and Checks:
- Tertiary qualifications in Applied Fashion Design and Technology, or demonstrated experience to meet these requirement is highly regarded
- Employee Working with Children’s Check
- Police Check
