The Curator Archaeology is a pivotal role unlocking the potential of Tāmaki Paenga Hira’s Archaeology collection. This permanent, full-time role provides extensive curatorial expertise to develop the Museum’s archaeology collection, enrich the content of the collection, undertake research and fieldwork, promote collection access, contribute to gallery renewals and public programmes and answer public enquiries.

To be successful in this role, you will offer;
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications (PhD preferred) or equivalent experience in a relevant field
- Proven record of publication on NZ archaeology and material culture
- Experience of leading and participating in archaeological excavations
- Demonstrated experience and extensive knowledge of analysis of archaeological collections particularly site assemblages and the archaeology of Auckland and the Coromandel regions
- Must have outstanding verbal and written communication skills, and strong analytical, planning and time management skills
- A collaborative approach and excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with Iwi, private landowners and government agencies to ensure compliance with legislation
- An awareness of Mātauranga Māori as a structure of knowledge about the relationships of people and the environment
- Knowledge of tikanga Māori especially relating to collections
- Knowledge of Te Reo Māori desirable
