Join the team at the History Trust of South Australia and work across the Migration Museum, The South Australian Maritime Museum and the National Motor Museum.

The Curator is accountable to the Senior Curator for contributing to the planning, research and development of projects and programs (including exhibitions, public programs, collections, education and digital) that engage, inform and inspire our visitors.

What you will do:

  • Contribute to the planning, research, development and delivery of audience-centred History Trust programs, including exhibitions, collections, and public, education and digital, that engage, inform, entertain and inspire our audiences.
  • Contribute to the research, communication and contemporary relevance of (South) Australian history and the State History Collection to broad audiences.
  • Provide curatorial advice and expertise to inform the development and delivery of the History Trust’s South Australian history network capacity building and community engagement programs.
  • In line with relevant policies and procedures, contribute to the care, documentation, conservation, development and accessibility of the State History Collection.
  • Contribute to the acquisitions and deaccessioning programs of the History Trust of SA by researching and assessing the provenance, significance and condition of historical material.
  • Assist with the preparation and installation of exhibitions and public programs.

Qualification / Skills you will bring: Essential:

  • Degree in History, Museum Studies or related field.
  • Knowledge of museum practices, principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of South Australian and Australian history.
  • Demonstrated skills in historical research, analysis and writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in producing exhibitions and public programs to engage a popular audience with sound scholarship.

Qualification / Skills you will bring:​​​​ Desirable:

  • Experience with collections management systems and digital asset management systems.
  • Knowledge of community museums and public libraries network.
  • Knowledge in managing a museum collection to ensure its preservation, documentation and development.

Special Conditions:

The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.
