Museums Victoria is seeking a Curator, Invisible Farmer to work closely with the project partners and wider community in creating digital content for use in social media and online platforms, and media, education and community programs.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The purpose of this position is research, manage and develop content for the Invisible Farmer: Securing Australian Farm Women’s History, an ARC Linkage project. Under the direction of the Senior Curator, Sustainable Futures, this position is primarily accountable for management, research and content development for the project’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).

A key activity of the position is creating and managing digital stories of women involved in agriculture and land management. This will involve photography, field work, responding to public enquiries, writing articles for the project’s website blog and social media platforms and preparing acquisition proposals.

Notable skills and experiences:

  1. Demonstrated research expertise in a relevant discipline and demonstrated experience in communicating research outputs. Specialist knowledge in one or more of the following fields is essential: Australian history, rural history, women’s studies, environmental or agricultural studies.
  2. Demonstrated experience in developing and editing high-level written and visual content, including digital stories, social media, photography and collections.
  3. Demonstrated experience working with content management systems (i.e. Squarespace) and social media platforms (particularly Instagram, Facebook and Twitter).
  4. Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills including the ability to represent the museum and the university to peers and the wider community.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work independently and contribute to a project team environment.
