Curator Matauranga Maori, Textile Weaving and Maori instruments
Whilst we would love to hear from candidates with knowledge in this area, we are also open to hearing from candidates with specialist knowledge and strengths from other Matauranga Maori portfolios.
This is a rare opportunity to join the Matauranga Maori curatorial team of Te Papa Tongarewa. Your role will involve working closely with the Curators and Collection Managers, the exhibition teams, particularly the renewal teams and external Maori communities to strengthen and develop collections, research, scholarship, and Matauranga Maori.
To be successful in this role you will:
- have a strong understanding of and experience in curatorial and collection management roles
- have a good knowledge of current museology theory and practice
- be able to participate in the delivery of projects in partnership with others, both across Te Papa Tongarewa and with external individuals, iwi and the cultural sector
- have the ability to contribute to the development and delivery of cross-disciplinary projects and programmes aimed at diverse and cross-generational museum audiences
- have energy, resilience and the proven ability to deliver quickly in a renewal and change environment
- have an understanding and be comfortable with digital technology and its use as an audience channel
- be experienced in collection research and writing, and be familiar with computer programmes including collection management software
- possess excellent communication skills (te reo Maori would be an advantage)
- have a passion for the application of tikanga Maori in the museum context and a strong network among Maori and cultural sector organisations.
