The Museum has an exciting opportunity to join the Curatorial Centres team. Our master plan is about the discovery of ideas and how we present them. The Museum is investing in the intellectual capacity of our staff to deliver these ideas to our audiences in diverse and participatory ways.

Our curatorial centres are designed to focus on selected ideas, collections and core areas of research that underpin the story of Australia. Each centre provides flexibility and agility for our curatorial staff, enabling opportunities for professional development and potential to build expertise in specific areas.

The current curatorial centres are:

  • Indigenous Knowledges;
  • Anthropocene Australia;
  • Defining Moments in Australian History;
  • Australia and the World;
  • Shared Histories.

There is also a Head of Centres team within Curatorial.

Through researching, exploring and testing innovative ideas related to Australian history and collections, our curators use a range of channels (digital, online, publications, presentations, seminars, event and exhibitions) to develop content and engage with audiences on research topics that align with the Museum’s strategic priorities.

Working under general direction and within one of our curatorial centres, this role offers the opportunity for the right candidate to contribute their research knowledge and curatorial experience to a range of different exhibitions, activities, collections and programs.
