The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is Australia’s leading independent museum
organisation. Our purpose is to inspire an understanding of the significance of the central
Victorian gold rushes in Australia’s national story.

We collect, conserve and interpret the mining, social, cultural and environmental heritage
of the Ballarat region through our world-famous Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, the Gold
Museum Ballarat, the Blood on the Southern Cross sound and light show and our pastoral
property, Narmbool.

We are seeking an innovative and hands-on Curator to fill a key role in the newly formed
“Collections and Research” department.

As Curator, you will be responsible for the exhibitions and public programs of the Gold
Museum Ballarat which is visited by more than 170,000 people per year. You will work
with the Senior Curator, Collection Manager and Historian on a range of projects across all
venues of the organisation, and you will shape the development of Sovereign Hill’s collection of some 150,000 items. Importantly, you will assist in the smooth day-to-day management of the Gold Museum and deputise for the Senior Curator when required.

We are seeking a collaborative person who can work with partner organisations, a diverse
range of colleagues and a dedicated band of volunteers.

If you are a researcher, planner and problem-solver with a ‘can do’ attitude, well organised
administrator, a strategic thinker and someone who wants to make their mark in a significant museum organisation then this could be the opportunity you have been looking for.

This position is ideal for a museum professional seeking to broaden their portfolio of
responsibilities. There is potential for further career advancement within the organisation.
