Curator, Sunrise Catalogue Research Project

Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking a Curator for the Sunrise Catalogue Project funded by the Telematics Trust to work on the world-leading Sunrise Classroom collection. This is a part-time role, one day per week until October 2024.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Australia’s largest public museum organisation is seeking an experienced and talented researcher curator to join the History & Technology team. The primary responsibility of the Curator, Sunrise Collection Project is to provide curatorial research and documentation for the ‘Sunrise Catalogue’ project funded by Museums Victoria and the Telematics Trust. The project is co-supervised by Dr Liddy Nevile, Research Associate, Museums Victoria.

Notable skills and experiences:

The incumbent will be required to work collaboratively with the Lead Project Investigator and Senior Curator, and with internal and external stakeholders. This role will be expected to undertake detailed documentation and research into the Sunrise Collection to facilitate a number of scholarly and public outputs. The duties of the position include:

  1. Undertake literature review, scope relevant existing collections in museums, libraries, archives, private and corporate collections.
  2. Undertake transcription of audio-visual datasets and analyse data using qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  3. Research and document Sunrise Catalogue objects, footage (including creation of summary transcriptions, time codes), images, documents and software for acquisition and registration into state collection.
  4. Participate in collaborative workshops and community engagement sessions with project partners; Museums Victoria Teachers association; advisory group and user testing groups
  5. Contribute to public outputs relating to the project in publications, presentations and online.
  6. Submit at least one scholarly article to Prism: MVRI Journal
  7. Comply with Museum Victoria’s policies and procedures and with relevant legislation and regulations.

The successful applicant will have:

  1. Demonstrated research expertise in a relevant discipline. Specialist knowledge in one or more of the following fields is essential: education, STEM studies, information technology, computer science and online culture.
  2. Demonstrated experience in applying qualitative and quantitative research methodologies to large datasets and undertaking analysis.
  3. Demonstrated experience in communicating research outputs for both academic and general audiences.
  4. Excellent communication, written and interpersonal skills including the ability to represent the museum to peers and the wider community.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both in a team environment and as an individual, and sound time-management skills.
  6. The successful applicant must be willing to undergo, and meet the cost of, a National Police Records Check and be assessed as suitable.
