The digitisation of the nation’s newspapers, from as early as 1803, has proven hugely popular with researchers amateur and professional but now cuts to the National Library of Australia‘s funding threaten the hugely popular Trove.

There are government funding cuts that are dumb. Then there are cuts that are the dumbest.

One of the silliest is the proposed reduction in funding to the National Library of Australia. The library has many brilliant services and one of the best is Trove, which is facing crushing cutbacks.

The free Trove service brings together content from libraries, museums, universities, archives and other research organisations relating to Australia. By clicking a few buttons anyone with internet access can search for the resources.
