The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences sits at the intersection of the arts, design, science and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues.? Established in 1879, the museum includes the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Observatory and the Museums Discovery Centre. The Museum is custodian to over half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia.
The Powerhouse Precinct at Parramatta is one of the largest cultural infrastructure projects currently being undertaken in Australia.  The project will transform and renew one of Australia’s oldest and most important cultural institutions and carry forward its legacy to reflect the changing needs of the contemporary communities of NSW. A key element of the project is the relocation and digitisation of the Museum collection.

The Opportunity

As a part of our Collection Relocation project, you will be working on the preparation of the collection currently stored at Ultimo for digitisation and relocation to the museum discovery centre. The Digital Asset Coordinator (MAAS Project) coordinates the day to day activities and sustainment of the digital archive being created by the Museums digitisation project.

The successful candidate  

To be successful in this role you will have;

  • Experience in the implementation and sustainment of digital asset management systems
  • Experience with database management
  • Experience with collection management systems
  • Experience administering preservation master and access copy file types
  • Knowledge of best practices in administering digital assets and metadata taxonomy
  • Desirably but not essential:
    1. Understanding of Fotoware products (Fotostation, Index Manager, Colour Factory & Fotoweb)
    2. Understanding of iEMu
    3. Experience covering archival and documentary photography/imaging of heritage materials using professional photographic and scanning equipment.
    4. Experience with image processing software on both Windows and Macintosh platforms
