Housed in one of Australia’s most prominent national heritage-listed buildings, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House was the first museum in Australia dedicated to telling the story of the journey of our democracy. It seeks to provide a range of innovative exhibitions, tours, interpretation, education programs and public activities that will inspire and challenge visitors to explore democracy from its ancient roots to the present day and possible futures.

The Digital Engagement Team develops and manages online and onsite digital products that engage audiences in democracy, Old Parliament House and our collection. The team develops content initiatives to serve a broad and diverse range of audiences, with a focus on inclusion, accessibility and digital content best practice. The team works closely with the Communications team to ensure the museum’s exhibitions, events and activities are shared and promoted. Reporting to the Manager of Digital Engagement and working with the Digital Content Producer (Web), the Digital Content Editor will play a key role in the successful delivery of the Museum’s website redevelopment project. The Digital Content Editor will support the content migration process and user testing of the website. The Digital Content Editor will also support the production of engaging and inspiring content for the site including articles, photography and video.

The key duties of the position include:

Under direction from the Digital Content Producer (Web), the Digital Content Publisher will be responsible for:

  • Uploading content to the site as part of the content migration process, adhering to style and editorial guidelines.
  • Sub-editing and fact-checking content.
  • Responding to publishing requests across the museum and working with stakeholders to prepare content for publication using best practice principles for digital content, particularly plain English, accessibility WCAG 2.1, and SEO.
  • Sourcing images, basic image editing including cropping and resizing images, and adding alt-text.
  • User testing of the staging site to ensure design and functionality is working as expected.
  • Supporting the Digital Content Producer (Web) to train stakeholders across the business in using the Drupal CMS and best practice principles for digital content.
  • Working collaboratively with the Digital Engagement Team and key stakeholders to support the production of digital content for the website.
  • Coordinating photo shoots.
  • Providing Google Analytics statistics for reporting.
