Glynis Traill-Nash, Creativity abounds in Collette unlaced as Dinnigan exhibition opens, The Australian, 2 September 2015

A designer’s creative process is something that only they and a small circle are privy to — but now one designer is inviting the world to take a peek inside.

When her exhibition Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced, opens on Saturday at the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences in Sydney, effectively launching its new Centre for Fashion, Dinnigan hopes a new generation of designers and anyone wanting to work in the creative fields will take their own inspiration away with them.

“I wanted to make people walk away feeling invigorated, not feeling like it was staged and coming out of boxes,” Dinnigan said.

“It’s about fashion as future, it’s about how creative minds think and the journey of quality and craft, of shapes that stand the test of time as well as looking forward. I feel very proud of it.”

For Rose Hiscock, director of MAAS, the exhibition is the ideal opening statement about its new Centre for Fashion, of which she has been a driving force.

“I’m particularly proud that the first significant exhibition under the Centre is Collette Dinnigan, Australia’s foremost fashion designer,” she said. “To profile Australian talent in such a significant forum is really fantastic.”
