Create experiences that connect people, taonga and stories to create a sense of wonder, belonging and purpose for Te Papa’s audiences
There is a unique opportunity to join a truly iconic New Zealand institution. Te Papa’s mission is to understand the past, enrich the present and meet the challenges of the future. Te Papa is more than just the national museum that houses New Zealand’s treasures – it is a meeting place, a place for lifelong learning, and a place that inspires a sense of wonder and connection.
We’ve recently reviewed our executive structure and put in place a model that gives us a strong platform for our ongoing success. As part of this change, we have created a new executive position, reporting to the Chief Executive, called Director Audience & Insights.
The importance of audience-centricity is strongly felt across our people. There is a clear need for us to think strategically about audience experience, and in an integrated way – i.e. the ‘how’ of connecting people, treasures and stories, in order to achieve a sense of wonder, belonging and purpose.
As Director Audience & Insights, you will be accountable for functions that deliver audience insight and the development of an integrated Museum programme. These functions are the differentiating capabilities that give us ‘museological edge’ beyond our core capabilities. They include:
- Programming and evaluation
- Audience data and analytics
- Experience design, including graphic design
- Digital channels
- Content, editorial and rights management, and
- Marketing and communications.
To be successful in this position, you will need relevant executive level experience, preferably within a similar sized cultural institution or public sector organisation. You will be considered a thought leader and bring a demonstrated understanding of audience, business and societal trends including digital, social, and their impact on business models. Your exceptional communication skills and ability to motivate and inspire others will be key to your success.
