An exciting opportunity is available for a dynamic individual to join the Australian Museum (AM) in a key strategic role to lead one of the AM’s five divisions, the Australian Museum Research Institute (AMRI)

The Australian Museum (AM) operates within the NSW Department of Premier & Cabinet. The AM is the first museum in Australia and was founded in 1827. The AM provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. The AM holds more than 21 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections and develops programs, exhibitions and school and community education initiatives onsite, online and offsite. The AM’s purpose is to make nature, Indigenous cultures and science accessible and relevant to everyone.

About the role:

The Director of the Australian Museum Research Institute (AMRI) reports to the Director and CEO of the Australian Museum (AM) and is part of the AM executive leadership team.

The primary purpose of this role is to drive and lead AMRI with a demonstrated ability to develop and implement a strategic vision for natural history science. The Director will lead and develop the profile and impact of AMRI through interaction with relevant scientific, educational, government and industry institutions and organisations, proactively promoting the work of AMRI and the AM.

The Australian Museum has 200 full time equivalent staff. This role will oversee 65 full time equivalent staff within the AMRI division.
