About the role:
The Director of Corporate Resources & CFO leads and directs the Corporate Resources Division in the delivery of a full range of functions including Finance, Human Resources, Information and Communications Technology, Security, and Facility Management to meet the Australian Museum’s strategic business objectives. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) has responsibility for the effective management of the Museum’s financial planning, performance monitoring and budgeting function.
The role will be responsible for the AM Master Plan’s financial management including strategy development and implementation.
The role serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, providing high level strategic advice and support to the Director & CEO, the Museum’s Board of Trustees, the Australian Museum Foundation and the Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation, as well as ensuring the sound management of the Museum and its staff.
As the Director, Corporate Resources & CFO you will:
- Drive the strategic direction and continuous improvement of the Museum’s Finance, Human Resources, Information and Communications Technology, Building and Security, and Facilities Management functions to deliver effective services to the Museum to enable it to meet its deliverables.
- Lead, plan and direct the development and implementation of the Museum’s financial management framework including financial management and reporting, procurement and contract management, risk management, budgeting and forecasting and the financial management of the Museum and Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation in accordance with accounting, audit and reporting standards.
- Lead and manage effective working relationships with all stakeholders including the Museum’s Trust and its Internal Audit and Risk Committee, internal and external auditors, and other Government agencies.
- Contribute at the senior executive level to the strategic planning and management of the Museum, working collaboratively with the Executive Team and other managers to provide specialist advice around fiscal strategy, planning and forecasting, assessing funding requirements and financial plans for projects
- Provide advice, support and reporting to the Director & CEO, Executive Team, Museum Trust on all financial matters including funding and investment strategies, contract negotiations, market trends to optimize quality decision making, to support business performance and to promote a risk management culture.
- Ensuring that the necessary risk management and governance frameworks and financial controls are in place to enable the Museum to maintain compliance with all relevant policies, legal, regulatory and statutory requirements.
- Lead and direct the management and security of the Museum’s building assets and sites and cost effective maintenance of its facilities, supported by strategic asset and maintenance planning and oversight of all capital works and projects.
- Promote a positive people-orientated culture across the Museum, based on the provision of a safe, healthy and innovative work environment, fostering diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, capability development and collaboration across the Museum’s divisions.

About you:
As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate;
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and eligibility for membership of a recognised professional accounting organisation e.g. CPA, CA
- Experience in developing and managing the preparation and analysis of complex financial information and in developing and managing significant budgets and major assets.
- Extensive experience in leading corporate support functions, including Finance, Human Resources, Information and Communications Technology, Building and Security Services and Facilities.
- Highly developed people management and leadership skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with senior stakeholders, colleagues, staff and clients.
- Adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in the Role Description.
