The Australian Museum (AM) was founded in 1827 as the first museum in Australia. This year marks the 190th anniversary and it is an exciting time to join with significant transformation programs, including the development of the Master Plan, being undertaken to firmly establish the AM as one of the leading natural history and culture museums in the world.

About the role:
The Director, Marketing, Communications & Partnerships leads and manages a portfolio of activities including Corporate Partnerships, Memberships, Marketing, Media Relations, Tourism, Digital and Internal and External Communications. The role oversees, develops and delivers strategies across the above portfolio to increase attendance, revenues and awareness and to enhance the Museum’s brand.
The role serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, providing high level strategic advice and support to the Executive Director & CEO, the Museum’s Board of Trustees, the Australian Museum Foundation and the Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation, as well as ensuring the sound management of the Museum and its staff.
As the Director, Marketing, Communications & Partnerships you will:
- Develop and provide strategic direction for the Marketing, Communications & Partnerships Division in line with the Museum’s Corporate Strategic Plan and Master Plan
- Oversee the creation and implementation of marketing, communications strategies that enhance the Museum’s reputation and increase visitor numbers and revenues
- Manage the continuous development of the Museum’s identity and brand to ensure the Museum’s image, messaging and values are integrated across the organisation and effectively communicated to audiences and stakeholders both nationally and internationally.
- Develop and lead the conception and implementation of strategies to increase income generation across memberships and corporate partnerships
- Develop and lead the conception and implementation of strategies to deliver the digital transformation of the AM and its technologies
- Develop, lead and manage the AM’s intra/interstate and international tourism offering, special event offerings, and subsequent revenues
- Manage, collaborate with and facilitate the effective relationships with stakeholders including, but not limited to, the Museum’s Trust, Australian Museum Foundation, Lizard Island Reef Research Foundation, the Museum’s corporate partners, donors and Members and key government stakeholders.
- Oversee the Division ensuring the development of staff and contractors, culture and systems are consistent with Museum directions, budget and fiscal accountabilities, and operational environment to ensure the Division maintains a consistently high service performance and financial success.
