Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.
A full-time, fixed-term role for 12 weeks (26th April- 15th July 2016) is available for a highly motivated Display Technician to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. The role requires enthusiasm, warmth and flexibility and will contribute to the production and display preparation of the Auckland Museum medal collection ‘visible storage’ project as part of an exciting Gallery Renewal project.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant qualifications in metal working, carpentry, painting, design, tailoring or related fields
- Understanding and practise in safe object handling
- Understanding and practise in collection cataloguing and data base management
- Understanding and practice in display preparation of metal, paper and textile collection items
- Passion for working with technically intricate and delicate preparatory work with an exceptional eye for detail
- Physically fit and fully capable of fulfilling the role, including climbing ladders, working at heights, work platforms etc.
- Excellent time management
- Extensive experience in tool use
- Team player, but self-motivated
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, holidays and or weekends.
- Current driver’s license
