Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland’s identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibition, events and educational programmes.

Auckland Museum has a full time 1-year fixed term opportunity for a highly motivated Display Technician to join the Museum at an exciting time of redevelopment and renewal. This role will be part of a newly formed team, working through a program of work to address priority object rotation projects across a variety of galleries. The team will consist of display technicians, collection technicians, conservation staff and a project manager and will be part of the wider “Public Experience” directorate. This role is responsible for repairing and fabricating object supports and mounts, the de-installation and installation of objects, assisting with object movements and other related work as per the object rotation schedule.

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Proficiency in fine metal working, such as TIG welding, brazing or solder work required for the fabrication of high quality display mounts
  • Relevant gallery production and installation experience, ideally in a museum environment
  • Strong understanding of museum/archival collection management best practice & safe object handling principles
  • Some experience in CAD software such as Sketchup, AutoCAD or Vectorworks would be desirable
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent time management
  • Team player, but self-motivated
  • Physically fit and fully capable of fulfilling the role, including climbing ladders, working at heights, use of work platforms etc.
  • Current driver’s licence
