The South Australian Museum is a leading research institution, one of the most visited museums in Australia, and holds collections of national and international significance. It is a leader in remote and regional community engagement, and in Australian Aboriginal heritage and scientific research.

The purpose of the Museum is to inspire in all people a wonder and curiosity about life on Earth. The Public Engagement team works with Museum staff and partners to bring the stories of the Museums research and collections to life in vibrant and exciting ways for all people. The team is responsible for the delivery of the Museums ongoing exhibition programme, its education and engagement programmes for the public, and the communications and marketing strategy of the Museum. The Education Program Manager exercises judgement and works under limited direction to: develop and ensure the effective delivery of, curriculum related programs for the South Australian Museum.
