A catalyst for creative expression and curious minds

The Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS) is Australia’s contemporary museum for excellence and innovation in applied arts and sciences. MAAS comprises the Powerhouse Museum, Sydney Observatory and the Museums Discovery Centre (collection stores at Castle Hill) and is the custodian of significant collections and an iconic building. MAAS also provides a compelling program of exhibitions, events and research to engage audiences and build reputation.

While the Events teams’ primary purpose is to generate revenue, the department is instrumental in many of the Museum’s public relations activities and helps to maximise attendance for the Museum.

This role contributes to the achievement of commercial targets through maximising sales of venue spaces. The principle responsibility is to sell, coordinate and administer all venue hire and events for MAAS and assists event organisers to ensure all aspects of the event are fully coordinated and all staff are fully briefed to support the event.

Event Sales Officers are also responsible for ensuring that all event related activities are carried out with strict adherence to Workplace Health and Safety, RSA, and all other relevant regulatory requirements.

The Commercial Team delivers commercial and business activity in support of the Museum’s vision and strategic ambitions.  The team provides key leadership to drive optimisation of revenues across both commercial activities and cultural programming, in close collaboration with the Marketing team. The three units within this team are Business Development/Contract Management, Event Sales & Coordination and Membership.
