The Exhibition Designer, Exhibitions will design and plan for temporary and permanent exhibitions and displays to meet Queensland Museum Network (QMN) vision, brand and strategic objectives and create a stimulating environment for Museum visitors. Based at Queensland Museum in South Bank, Brisbane, the Exhibition Designer, Exhibitions will design projects across all QMN sites. The successful applicant will be a highly organised, collaborative and creative design professional with demonstrated experience in museum and/or gallery exhibition design; a positive, flexible attitude; and a passion for the museums sector.

  • Plan and manage 3D design elements of assigned exhibition projects, including the development of concepts, exhibition design proposals, production solutions and construction documentation for Queensland Government tender procurement packages.
  • Create innovative 3D design solutions based on an applied knowledge of exhibition principles, practice and interior design that meet objectives and are developed within budget and set timeframes. Obtain technical advice from certifiers and engineers and produce designs that comply with the National Construction Code and Australian Standards within the Building Code Australia.
  • Operate design applications including Vectorworks, Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite to deliver exhibition design in a Macintosh environment.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of ongoing improvements to design technologies, systems, procedures, and policies.
  • Work collaboratively across the Queensland Museum Network (QMN), managing your own work plan with accountability to meet brand, vision, and strategic and operational objectives across the four QMN campuses, using your knowledge of conservation and collection management requirements to advise on object display.
  • Develop and sustain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to a cycle of continuous improvement by proactively seeking feedback, raising concerns, and generating solutions.
  • Comply with QMN values, policies, procedures, and appropriate legislation.
  • Contribute to the safety culture of QMN by reporting all incidents and hazards and ensuring work is undertaken in the safest way possible, following all QMN WHS policies and/or procedures and guidelines relevant to the job.

Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or higher qualification qualifications in a design-related area of expertise, or equivalent as determined by the Chief Executive, are mandatory for this role.

At least five years experience designing exhibitions within a cultural context will be highly regarded.

Applications will remain current for a period of up to 12 months and may be considered for other vacancies (identical or similar), which may include employment on a temporary basis up to six months (full-time or part-time).
