The Australian Museum (AM) was founded in 1827 and is the first museum in Australia. We provide access, engagement and scientific research to increase understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. Holding more than 18 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections, we develop programs, exhibitions and school and community education initiatives onsite, online and offsite.

Due to demand within our Exhibition Team we have an exciting opportunity that has become available for a motivated individual to join the Australian Museum as an Exhibition Project Officer on a casual basis.
About the role:
The primary purpose of this role is to support the Exhibition Team to maintain the museum’s interactive displays and ensure that they are in compliance with legal, building and safety codes.
As the Exhibition Project Officer you will:
- Install new and prepare replacement specimens, artefacts, and artwork to augment the Museum’s displays.
- Exhibition assembly and arrangement which may include; carpentry/cabinet making, metal assembly, mount making, lighting, AV installation.
- Comply with the standards of production for the Australian Museum’s on site and touring exhibitions and ensuring the safety and quality of onsite and touring exhibition installations.
- Inspect the operations and conditions of the Museum’s interactive displays.
- Keep alongside of developments in techniques and equipment which may aid and improve the interactive and non-interactive displays, and support Exhibitions Team to solve problems that occur.
- Collaborate with internal staff members and Australian Museum suppliers in relation to the production and installation of exhibitions and ensuring that exhibitions are produced and installed according to plan.

- Willingness to work on weekends when required.
- Experience working in museums, galleries or other cultural institutions is desirable.
- A NSW Drivers licence is desirable.
- Elevated work platform licence and/or forklift licence desirable but not necessary
