The opportunity
As Exhibitions Graphic Designer at the Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences (MAAS), you will be responsible for conceptualising, designing, preparing artwork and production of all aspects of the Museum’s graphic design and visual communications.
You will design and produce exhibitions, displays, major installations, visible collection storage, permanent galleries, event and experiential design projects ensuring that the MAAS standards of design excellence are maintained.
Day to day, you will:
- Prepare, design, and oversee the production of exhibition environmental graphics, labels, didactic texts, way finding signage, illustrative, digital and information graphic material, and other visual communications,
- Develop in accordance with design briefs graphic design concepts including illustrations, mock-ups, layouts and computer-generated visuals for review and approvals.
- Resolve, in accordance with project and design briefs, the integration of 2d graphics in a 3d environment, ensuring the graphics are appropriate for the display of collections, and design solutions for a range of collateral related to communications, programs, festivals, education.
- Ensure all graphic production addresses MAAS’ audience requirements, including promoting full inclusion, access, opportunities and leadership in the arts for people with disability through universally accessible design solutions
- Maintain, review and update way finding and other related signage, as required. Ensure MAAS sites – both gallery and public spaces – are monitored for appropriate signage on a consistent basis
- Design graphics, signage and display panels, including design and layout of text and images, to enable the development of creative and effective displays.
- Maintain brand consistency by identifying, creating and maintaining the professional standards of quality in graphic design that reflects the Museum’s brand
- Install and dismantle graphics as required.
About you
The ideal candidate for this role has the ability to craft the big idea and develop it into the final product and implement it. You’ll love to brainstorm and work with a team to concept ideas and bring them into our spaces. You must have great attention to detail, superb time management and adapt to work at a very fast pace.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Graphic Design with min. 4 year’s practical experience in the discipline of graphic design
- Print and digital design, and production experience
- Experience developing creative design solutions across digital and print platforms for a variety of marketing and communications campaigns.
- Ability to create effective visual communication pieces from creative concept stage through to finished product
- Demonstrated ability to articulate, create and direct a high-quality design approach within a public context.
- Experience with working flexibly in a team to deliver design outcomes and a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with colleagues and contractors at all levels.
- Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
- Prior experience in a cultural institution desirable
