The Exhibition Officer will work with the Gallery Development team to support the development of the Memorial’s new permanent galleries. This includes the planning, development, implementation and delivery of new exhibitions and refurbished exhibition spaces.

The Exhibitions Officer will work as part of multidisciplinary exhibition project teams that may include external consultants and contractors such as designers and trade contractors; as well as cross-branch disciplines including but not limited to, historical, curatorial, registration, conservation, audiovisual, buildings, web and marketing.

The position requires experience in the delivery of interpretative exhibition design projects within the museum or art gallery sector; a thorough understanding and appreciation of contemporary museum practices; the ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously at various phases; as well as high level communication and liaison skills.

The key duties of the position include:

Under direction, provide project management and administrative support in the planning, Production and installation of permanent exhibitions, including:

  • Coordinate exhibition documentation, including curatorial, collection, design and production/fabrication/construction documentation through all exhibition development phases;
  • Prepare and coordinate exhibition tour documentation, including but not limited to, crating lists; venue confirmations; loan agreements; marketing packs; and briefing material;
  • Coordinate meetings and prepare and distribute minutes;
  • Establish and monitor exhibition lists;
  • Assist in the implementation of exhibition policies and practices;
  • Raise and track purchase orders using the Memorial’s finance management system;
  • Raise and track image orders using the Memorial’s digital media system;
  • Coordinate host venue visitor statistics, reports and surveys; and
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with Memorial staff, exhibition designers and external contractors; and staff at State, metropolitan and regional cultural institutions across Australia
  • Coordinate installation of exhibitions at the Memorial; and
  • Manual handling and movement of a wide range of collection material, exhibition infrastructure, including graphic material, showcasing and exhibition furniture.
